Actually … it’s a great first album. I’m thinking that some people ‘expected’ something else (ballads and old school R&B most likely) from Jessica but this album really is the smart way to go.
Jessica is a young girl and could be Aretha’s, Jennifer Holiday’s or Diana Ross’s daughter or grandaughter SO it makes perfect sense that she goes for ‘young’ music. It would not be believable for her to go the ‘old school’ route. Had she done that, she would probably be a novelty at first, but the problem with that is it’s likely to be a flash in the pan. She would be in a rut that is so deep that she might not ever climb out of it. She might become a ‘cover’ singer for the rest of her (likely) short career.
This is what happened to Charice. She was musically type cast(ed).
Way to go Bebe Chez !!!
